I previously posted what started out to be a tip regarding contacts not being retrieved in MC4SF queries. That post turned into a question, so I am duplicating the question here to pick up responses from all the extremely helpful, knowledgeable people who keep up with these questions.
Scenario: We are migrating to SF from eTapestry, which has the ability to mass email. Some constituents had signed up for our emails online, so they were subscribed in Mailchimp. When any of these contacts were then added to eTapestry, they were marked as opted in there, too. We would send out mass emails from both Mailchimp, which has captured a much larger audience than our record limit in eTapestry would allow us to capture there, and from eTapestry, which contains constituents who subscribed through alternate channels and may also have subscribed in Mailchimp. In turn, some of our constituents were getting mass emails both from Mailchimp and from eTapestry, so they unsubscribed in Mailchimp.
Now we are migrating to Salesforce and moving to use Salesforce campaigns to sync campaigns and their respective campaign members to Mailchimp, which will be our only mass email sender. This means that we have a number (quantity unknown) of contacts who are unsubscribed in the platform from which we will now be sending emails they actually subscribed to receive.
Issue: 1) MC4SF queries do not retrieve contacts who are unsubscribed in Mailchimp. 2) MC4SF queries do not retrieve contacts who are now subscribed in Mailchimp but who were previously unsubscribed there.
Question: Has anyone experienced this issue as well? Have you come up with a solution? For issue 1, a possible, albeit undesirable, option would be to send an operational email to our unsubscribed Mailchimp audience letting them know we are consolidating our email services and letting them know to resubscribe if they wish to continue receiving our emails. However, in light of the second issue, this will not resolve the situation. Have you found a fix for MC4SF not retrieving contacts who resubscribed in Mailchimp after unsubscribing there? We have a case in with Mailchimp, but there is no progress after a week.
This ended up being a very simple fix for us.
Following the tutorials, I had been leaving Data Sync unchecked until my last step in the initial setup. However, to test previewing the query, it has to be checked first so MC4SF has the most current subscription status on Mailchimp contacts.
@Andy Kallio: So, try enabling Data Sync under Setup > Settings to see if it resolves your issue. It sounds like your issue is a little different, though, because my query didn't return contacts who were resubscribed, while yours is returning the contacts but not syncing them.
