Bogus error message embarrasses me while teaching

If I open the attached Excel spreadsheet and do this using Tableau Public in Sheet 1, I get an error:

  1. Drag Fertility Rate to the Columns shelf.
  2. Drag Live Expectancy to the Rows shelf.
  3. In the Analysis menu, uncheck Aggregate Measures.
  4. Drag Year to the Pages card.

At this point, I get this error:Bogus error message embarrasses me while teaching

 

This is the error text: 

Unable to complete action 

Internal Error - An unexpected error occurred and the operation could not be completed. 

Error Code: 6EA18A9E 

 

If I drag

Year to Columns first, then drag it from Columns to Pages, it then seems to work. Huh? But it gets worse. I continue on, dragging Population and dropping it on Size in the Marks

card. Same error. 

 

A student happened to notice that going to

Format > Animations and setting Workbook Default to Off

seems to stop these errors. But why? Why am I getting these errors? 

 

It seems like quality control took a nosedive when Tableau forced academic users off of Tableau Desktop and into Tableau Public. It is fragile.
