I'm trying to implement a simple integration between some physical hardware on my desk and my own Slack user status. I don't really want to create an app, I just want to use the API to manipulate my own status so that I can set myself as away, or "out for lunch".
The API for this is clearly documented, but I will need a token with the appropriate user scope, and I was hoping that there was some way within slack to generate a personal user token. With the Oauth2 method, I would need to create a redirect server, and possibly some other infrastructure to grab the token. I suppose that could be a local https endpoint, but it looks like all of that would be way more work than the actual API integration itself.
This is meant to be for my own use. I have some hardware buttons that I want to use to control status. Some other APIs have a mechanism to issue a token for yourself without declaring an app when you don't necessarily want to build something to share and just have a very trivial integration.
I ended up creating an app, and once approved, it does give me my own token in the app control panel, but it didn't seem to make sense to clutter up the "app store" with a one-off integration. This contrasts significantly with something like a webhook to a channel, where I can just go in and create that right in the app, and I immediately have a URL that I can post data to for that one-off channel integration.
I think I may have been able to solve this by creating the app (we can talk Websocket presence another day!), but maybe put that down as a suggestion to be able to create a user token without an app.
