I am looking to gain a better understanding of the UX and design aspects involved in creating a high-quality Community template for Salesforce. Can anyone suggest where I can find more information about the various options available for Community templates?

Hi Maria, as far as I'm aware, you can't change your experience cloud template, only the theme. This article does a good job showing which components are available in each template though: https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sf.rss_component_reference_table.htm&type=5
