Hi all,

I'm trying to troubleshoot a situation in which somehow leads created by sales are created with an integration user (it's a sys admin that's used for automated processes) as the lead owner. The sales person obviously doesn't notice this and carries on and converts the lead into a new account (not ideal already) which results in an account, contact and opportunity all in the name of this sys admin user not the sales user. This seems to happen sometimes to some people but not all the time for everyone. Very strange. I've looked in a few different places - what's running on the Owner field on lead, flows on lead, a batch class that updates some fields for territories, any formula fields, queue owners, etc even workflow rules and haven't found anything yet.

My question is, is there something like Setup Audit Trail but for tracking all the changes to data in the org? I know there's Field History Tracking but what I'm trying to figure out is what sets the new lead's Lead Owner before save to be this sys admin user not the sales user who's creating it in the UI.

I'd set a trace flag on the user and have a look at the debug log but we've already tried to get one of the users to reproduce the issue and it doesn't happen. As I said, it seems to be happening for some people sometimes and I have no idea what the criteria would be.

Very grateful for any ideas and if you need any more context, let me know.

Thanks everybody, all the best :)

Matt

    So natively field history tracking will tell you the history of certain fields that are being tracked.

    Additionally Change Data Capture (CDC) is another feature that works in a similar way.

    However both of these tools will not tell you how/why the record was created that way which is what you seem to be after here.

    When Leads are 'defaulting' to the generic user does any of the following apply;

    • The Lead does not match any Lead Assignment Rule
    • No Lead Assignment Rules are active
    • The default Lead Owner is the Generic User

    Additionally do you have anything else on top of Salesforce here for Lead Generation eg. Marketing Cloud or Account Engagement (Pardot)?
