stopping recurring payments

We have a monthly recurring donor who has somehow given twice a month for the last two months.  I do not know how to stop one of the recurring payments without entirely deleting the record from teh system and I do not want to do that.  

 

On another note, we have a monthly recurring donor who did not give this month because the system said her card expired, although it has not.  We want to stop her recurring payments through the system and just set her back up again.

 

Can you walk me through how we do this?

    1. Create a custom checkbox field and make it false.

     

    2. Update the field to true when a donor donate for a specific month(Using trigger / workflow).

     

    3. Check that field value for each donor. If value == true donn't run ur functionality.

     

    For 2nd one i need more clarification.
