Here is my scenario:

We have dashboard views for our students. Our students are categorized as 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year.

I need to be able to filter for one student at a time to show their specific data, but also show a breakdown of all other student only within the same cohort (1st year, 2nd year, etc.). I'm trying to use fixed LOD calculations, but it's not working for the type of view I am trying to use.

Some notes:

  • We use the student filter as a global filter across multiple dashboards for viewing one student at any time across different areas.
  • I've tried implementing parameters in place of filters, but even with the new updates they just don't work as well.
  • I know they can be helpful and have used in the past, but if possible, would like to avoid using "actions" as it's just another click for the user

This first report shows the ideal end-result, but I have to use the "School Year" filter explicitly in the view.

Cohort Breakdown with Filtered Out Values

This report shows my attempt to replicate the same view above, but use the individual student as the filter, but populate the view with all "1st Year" students. I only get back the "competence" option for each category for the selected student, but need to show all 3 (On/Approaching/Below Target), and then the correct number of students.

    Hello Esther,

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate the article, although I would like to try to avoid parameters, if possible.

Sorry for the confusion. [Id] is basically the same as [Category Text], which is used in the view.

I used the "Fixed Count Students" to show what I believe is working 'correctly', but I think I may need to create a fixed LOD for competence to get all "competence" options to appear? Below is my current attempt at this, but still unsuccessful at showing all "competence" options to appear for every category.

If you, or anyone has any suggestions with this specifically I may be able to accomplish what I need without a parameter.

    Thanks again.
