EDI integration with SAP

I have a requirement, where I need to send EDI flat files data to SAP, which will be inserted in SAP and an acknowledgment received from SAP will be again written to a flat file.

I found EDIFACT and X12 for reading EDI files .

Can anyone suggest, which one to proceed in which scenario. From where I can get sample edi files with there schemas
