Did you know a number field in Smart Capture carries a character limit?

It's been a very stressful morning dealing with an intermittent Smart Capture form issue.  I wanted to share what happened as this is something you all should be aware of.

I created my Data Extension, created my Smart Capture form, everything was looking great. My field merges were populating and everything was working well in testing.  The form has been out there for over a week now and we've had responses coming in.  But in the past 12 hours there were a lot of people who could not submit, they fill the form, click the button and nothing happens...UGH

The reason for the issue was a known bug, which I didn't know aboutSF you need to communicate this or add a warning in Smart Capture please

I was collecting Mobile Number in my form using a number field.  There is no character limit in the Data Extension, but it seems when you use a number field in a Smart Capture form a character limit of 10 is applied. WTH! Why?  We do not know why, but this is a known bug.

The field merge for the Mobile Number worked and the full number was presented, but then they could not submit since it was over the limit.  It seems sometimes the form will submit and chop off the additional characters, but other times it does not.

It's fixed now.  I created a new text field, switched it out in the form and republishing.  This fix took about 5mins, but I have spent all morning investigating this, rebuilding the entire form, switching and testing 100 different solutions none of which worked.  If only I had known about this known bug...

I agree, it would be useful to have a warning message as well as a list of known issues to avoid a lot of time wasted, or problems later on. Problems like this can give a negative view of Marketing Cloud when it could have been avoided at the outset.
