We use standard salesforce but would be looking to switch to the nonprofit cloud.

We are a part of the power for change programme already, is it just a case of switching the licenses?

Would we lose all of our non (non profit) objects as well? We are an animal shelter so also use Salesforce as a drugs management database so unclear currently on the benefits of making the switch if we can just add non profit objects to our current system

My understanding is that you should have an easier time switching over than those of us who are currently using NPSP. That's probably based off the same information you're looking at, so I'm just saying that my interpretation agrees with yours. And it's not at all a stupid question - everyone here understands why you want to be cautious about something with such a big effect on your data and your operations!

I strongly recommend researching third-party backup tools and I think there might be a way to test out the switch in a sandbox before you switch over your production database. The expectation is that you would be able to activate your new licenses and be away to the races, but especially right now when there's so little real-world experience to draw from, it's hard to be completely sure that things will go as expected.
