Events are what campaigns and campaign member statuses are for, if I take your meaning of "event" as something that happens on a scheduled basis like an open house or a webinar. There is also the concept of creating a few "flex fields" that have rotating purposes for transient usages. But bottom line, if you want to report on anything in Salesforce, you have to create fields for it. They are separate core databases.
