according to logs i pulled together some of the emails sent from SF seem to originate from this IP. Others do not and are delivering. The 10.176.20.xxx are being rejected. Does anyone know if that IP range is from SF?

Well for what it's worth there are no dns records at all for bnc.salesforce.com... The A and MX records for chatter.salesforce.com all point to IPs in the ranges linked in those two articles (and reverse lookup on the IPs resolves back to dns*.salesforce.com).
Isn't the entire 10.0.0.0/8 (10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255) range bogon (private)? Yes it is.
I can't imagine how these would be coming from SF.
