I've been investigating my automation rules that listen to the GA fields on the prospects record, and seems that the GA Connector in Pardot doesn't work exactly as the documentation spells out. On this documentation page it says "Google Analytics data appears on new prospect records that originate from Google Analytics-tagged links. When an existing prospect clicks a tagged link, their campaign does not update, and the Google Analytics section of their record doesn’t populate." and... "UTM is updated for the first touchpoint only."

However, I am finding it is more nuanced that that. I have many automation rules that are listening for values in the GA Source, Medium, and Campaign fields. I have found many instances where someone will click a UTM-tracked URL, and match the automation rule, but will have no values in the GA Source, Medium, and Campaign fields. In these situations the tracked URL click is NOT at the same time that the prospect record was created - in many cases the prospect record was created weeks/months prior. It seems like the automation rules are not listening to the five GA fields on the prospect record, they are listening to something else, maybe pageviews with tracked URLs.

Has anyone else seen this behavior?  I would be thrilled if the GA connector fired on all touches (not just first touch) because I am trying to track all the touchpoints via automation rules/connected campaigns, but that contradicts the documentation. It appears that it's really tracking many touches, but I can't trust that it really is.

Thanks for any help you can provide!
