Workaround for Dashboard Filters across multiple objects with custom fields

I am currently trying to make a Dashboard that can be filtered by different custom fields on multiple objects. We have several custom fields on the User object that denote "Sales Department" "Sales Team" and "Territory". We have custom formula (text) fields on both the Event and Opportunity object that pull in this information to those records, but I can't use those fields to filter a Dashboard. 

 

The end goal is a Dashboard with components for Activities and Opportunities, that can be filtered by Sales Department, Sales Team, and Territory (which live as custom fields on the User object, and are pulled into Activities and Opportunities as formula fields). 

 

Is there any workaround for making these fields available for use as a dashboard filter across multple objects?

    I'm not aware of a workaround to be honest unless you define your filters from the source report themselves. Hopefully, other members here can give us advice.
