I'd like to create a custom field title that behaves as a picklist (mr, mrs. etc.) and that field would then replace the standard title field which is plain text at the moment. But how can I make sure that the already existing values from this standard fields will be transfered to my new custom field "title"?
How do I make sure I dont loose this information when deleting the standard field title?

Hi Philip,
Why are you using the Title field for recording Mr, Mrs etc.., the standard field that you should be using is Salutation field which is a picklist field and you could customize the field by adding values into the field.
Title which is a standard field cannot be deleted from the system and if you do not want to use this field, you will have to hide this field from users and pagelayouts.
In order to copy the existing values that you have under the free text field, you will have to do some data manipulation i.e. mapping the text to a picklist value and update the custom picklist field using dataloader.
