How do you get a report of files related to a contact or custom object

My client stores scanned files such as applications and change of address requests on their contact records and sometimes against a customer object.

In the UI Salesforce is great at showing you related files and notes.

I have been asked to produce a report that shows the attached files for each contact - how do I do that?
