I created an Auto-Generated Number field for a Custom Object. However, this leaves my existing records on that object without a #. Any suggestions on backfilling these? Thanks!

the other way is to delete the existing auto number field and create a new auto number field and make sure you check the box
Generate Auto Number for existing records
this will assign the Auto number to all your existing records
