I am currently using Salesforce Classic and I read that you can filter the Search Bar for the Community on Lightning.
My question is does it allow you to filter a specific field for an Object or just the Object as a whole? Thanks!

The global search look for keyword in the whole object, there is no way to say look in a specific field.
