If merged new contact owner = API (vendor) and old contact owner = User.
Then contact owner is changed to old owner.
Any idea how I would create this?

Ok - Vendor sends a daily API with new accounts & new contacts...sometime they create dupe contacts. The vendor has a system on thier end which identifies those dupes and then merges within thier system and Salesforce. When they merge contacts sometimes they become the new owner on the record which can pose problematic from a reporting standpoint. The vendor has/needs system admin access, so I can't limit thier ability to merge records. I don't want to create reports then fix after the fact. I want to create a some type of workflow or automation rule which change the contact owner back when the vendor merges the record.
