Hello! I'm very new to SalesForce and trying to get the hang of how everything works, so please excuse me if this is a basic question. I work for a sales team, and we need to be able to sort our opportunities by the "type" of products that we sell - TV, Radio, Digital, Events, etc.

I thought the first step would be to set everything up in price books, but it seems that we can't modify any of the prices listed in here. We have a media kit with standard rates, but there's an enormous amount of products available for each of the platforms and the prices vary between accounts, si I think it would be easier for the Account Executives to just add a fixed price on for each of the product categories that are part of each opportunity. Ideally, something like this:

TV: $2,000

Radio: $1,000

Digital: $0

Print: $0

Events: $0

TOTAL: $3,000

Again, the Account Executives follow the media kit prices as a guideline, but the prices vary between clients. I know that we can add opportunities without using products, but I want to be able to track how much of our business is going toward each of the different platforms that we offer. Am I overthinking this, or is this relatively easy to set up? Thanks in advance for any expertise you may be able to offer!

You can set the default Sales Price to $0.00 (trhat's what we do on our SFDC org) the "actual" Sales Price is set at the Opportunity Product.
