Record type and field accessibility

Is it possible to have a profile be able to view a record that has a certain record type but not be able to edit it? Below is what I am hoping to do:

 

Custom Profile: Operations

 

Field: Billing Status

 

Record Types: Pre-Billing Record Type, Finance Record Type

 

Situation:

  • The Operations profile has access to the Pre-Billing record type, and the Billing Status is editable. 

  • After a certain field is complete, the record type automatically changes to Finance Record Type

  • At that point, I want Operations to be able to view the record but not make any edits to the fields. 

Is this possible? What I am seeing now is that the Operations profile can still edit all of the fields (even though they don't have the option to create a new record with that record type).

    Yes, you can create a Read Only page layout and associate the Page Layout to the Profile and Record Type using the Page Layout Assignment settings.
