If you want to practice the assignments then sign up for developer org here https://developer.salesforce.com/signup it will active always so you can also use this in future for testing. or you can sign up for trail version here https://www.salesforce.com/form/signup/freetrial_training.jsp . But trial version is only for 30 days.
