Has anyone used it before, if so, what did you think? Was it useful? Did it bring up any issues I need to consider?
Any help would be much appreciated.

If your overseas agent has their own Salesforce org, then the only/best way to share records is using Salesforce-to-Salesforce. If they don't have their own org, you can give them a license to your Salesforce org and let them access/enter data directly.
Related to S2S, even though there is a connection between the 2 orgs, the Admin of each Org decides which records are shared from their org, and which records are allowed "in" from the remote org. This provides a great deal of control to ensure that your data is only available to the Users you want.
