The Managed version can be upgraded, but you'll have limited options in how you can customize. The Unmanaged version you can customize however you like, but it can't be upgraded (if a new version were released, you would need to uninstall and reinstall, which can be difficult once you have data). There may also be functionality differences between the two, but I'm not familiar enough with these applications to say one way or the other.
