Example: Our organisation has several accounts who's main contacts are chair persons.
These chair persons sign contracts with us on behalf of their company, but the chair person is changed every 6 months. We don't know what to do with these out of date contacts - we cant remove them as no one would be in the database as having signed the customer's end of the contract, so what should we do?

What are you trying to do with them- or need to do?
Also what does your legal department need to have happen?
You could add a field on the contact to show if they are a current employee or not if you're trying to determine who is/is not with a company any more. Since Contacts to Accounts are a one to one, you can leave the record associated with the account. Using the active field or not along with role/title can help guide with any outgoing emails and such.
I recommend double checking with legal though as to how they want contracts handled. Different companies I've worked for have done things different ways.
