No lookup option for picklist report filter

I am trying to setup custom filters on some reports I've created and the fields I want to filter on are multi select picklists.  It is difficult for users to remember the exact strings they are looking to report upon and it would be far simpler to select the desired options from a picklist.

 

I've read a 'tips' page presented by SalesForce and it appears that this options is supposed to exist.

 

This is what I found on the SF page

 

" To filter on picklist values, click the lookup icon next to the third column. Next, select the picklist values to include in your filter and click Insert Selected to insert the selected values. If your organization uses record types, the lookup dialog lists picklist values for all record types. Use either the“equals” or “not equal to” operators for these filters. "

Can anyone tell me how to get this lookup icon to appear on the third column?

 

I can get the lookup icon to appear for 'out of the box' fields.  But not for Custom fields. It is a custom field on which I need to filter.

    Salesforce.com doesn't make the lookup icon available for multi-select picklist fields in reports.  Many others are not thrilled about this either...

    This is not an end-user friendly approach, but as an Admin, I sometimes group my report by the multi-select picklist field to see the available values.  If it makes sense, I'll use the Drill Down function to add a filter, or I'll just take note of the values I want and then manually type in the filter.
