question about what best to do. I've got the developer certification since last year and I still have to do the summer 15 maintenance exam, but this is going to renew because it's asking me to repay the 100 dollar registration fee (that's correct because it's approx a year now), but there is also the transition exam to app builder for those that are dev certified.
Do I have to do the maintenance exam AND the transition exam (both 100 dollar registration) or can I just go for the transition exam (which also includes summer 15) and will my (dev-path) certification be renewed for a year?

The Platform Dev I/II (coding) does in fact replace the Adv Dev cert, as in it becomes no longer active. The Force.com Dev (non-coding) though will remain active indefinitely as the Platform App Builder is considered along the same path, but adjacent for now. My guess would be that it will become a replacement at some point though. Hope this helps!
