Discover What Headless Means for Your Organization

Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:

  • Explain what it means for every company to become an agentic enterprise.
  • Identify how Headless 360 removes barriers for developers building outside the Salesforce ecosystem.
  • Identify the new opportunities Headless 360 creates for both developers and business users.

Every company is on a path to becoming an agentic enterprise—and you need a partner who can meet you wherever you are. Introducing Salesforce Headless 360, the platform that makes it possible for humans and agents to work together across any surface (Slack, Teams, ChatGPT, and more), tool, or environment. It makes Salesforce data, logic, and governance accessible from anywhere, so developers can build wherever they work, and business users can get things done without ever opening the Salesforce UI.

The World Is Changing Fast

Think about how work gets done today. Your teams aren’t all working within a single app. Developers are building in VS Code, Cursor, or Windsurf. Business users are responding to customers in Slack, WhatsApp, and Microsoft Teams. AI agents are routing requests, summarizing information, and taking action across every system, all at once. This is the shift to the agentic enterprise—a world where agents span every system and workflow, work moves autonomously, and your needs are anticipated before anyone even picks up the phone.

But here’s the challenge: Most enterprises are still stuck and say they can’t meet AI demand safely. The gap between where companies are and where they need to be is real—and that’s exactly where Salesforce comes in.

One Platform Anywhere Humans and Agents Work

One platform. Anywhere humans and agents work. That’s the promise of Salesforce Headless 360. But what does headless actually mean?

Traditionally, Salesforce was accessed through the Lightning Experience—a browser-based UI. Headless means the business logic, data, workflows, permissions, and governance that live inside Salesforce are now accessible from anywhere without requiring anyone to open the Salesforce UI. Critically, agents don’t just get access to the data, they inherit security and governance. Every permission, every compliance rule, and every approval chain your teams spent years building travels with the platform, wherever it’s accessed.

In simple terms: Headless 360 allows Salesforce to meet users and agents where they already are instead of asking them to come to Salesforce. You don’t have to change how you work. Salesforce shows up in the tools and surfaces you already use every day.

An “And,” Not an “Or”

Salesforce has always been an extensible platform. Headless 360 builds on that foundation by exposing Salesforce through skills, Model Context Protocols (MCPs), application programming interfaces (APIs), metadata, and the Headless Experience Layer, enabling people and AI agents to access Salesforce capabilities across different tools and interfaces.

Headless 360 isn’t a replacement for Lightning Experience; it’s an expansion of where Salesforce capabilities can be used. Teams can work in Teams, developers can build in Cursor or Claude Code, and organizations can create custom experiences using the framework of their choice—all while using the same Salesforce data, workflows, security, and governance.

In short, Headless 360 extends Salesforce beyond traditional Salesforce interfaces, making it possible to deliver Salesforce-powered experiences wherever users and agents work.

New Opportunities for Developers and Business Users

Headless 360 opens doors for two important groups in your organization: developers and business users.

Developers

In the past, developers who worked outside the Salesforce ecosystem had a steep learning curve. Now, a developer using Claude Code, Cursor, or Windsurf can build on Salesforce without having to learn a new integrated development environment (IDE) or platform from scratch. This is made possible by four foundational pillars—skills, MCP/APIs, metadata, and the headless experience layer.

  • Skills: 30+ prebuilt skills give any coding agent—Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf—the knowledge to discover, understand, and act on Salesforce natively.
  • MCP/APIs: 60+ MCP tools and a full suite of Salesforce APIs (with more coming rapidly) give external developers deep, native access to the Salesforce platform.
  • Metadata: Rich org-aware grounding gives agents and tools deep understanding of your data model, objects, fields, and configurations—so they can act intelligently within the context of your specific Salesforce environment.
  • Headless Experience Layer (HXL): A flexible rendering layer lets agents and apps surface experiences across any channel or interface, from Slack and Teams to WhatsApp, Voice, and beyond.

Together, these pillars mean any developer can build on the full power of Salesforce—from any tool, in any environment—while staying within a secure, governed, and trusted foundation.

Business Users

Headless 360 also unlocks new ways for business users to interact with Salesforce. Whether they’re in Slack, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp, or ChatGPT, Salesforce can now surface data, trigger workflows, and take action in those environments directly.

For business users, the experience is seamless. They get the power of the Salesforce Platform without ever needing to open the Salesforce UI.

The Real Business Drivers Behind Headless 360

Organizations adopt Headless 360 to drive four core value pillars that deliver real business results—adoption, reach, speed, and AI agent strategy.

  1. Adoption: Many organizations struggle to get users to log into Salesforce consistently. Bringing workflows directly to where your users already live removes that friction entirely.
  2. Reach: Your employees who never traditionally had Salesforce access, such as frontline workers, field teams, or external partners can now participate in Salesforce-powered workflows through Slack or Teams.
  3. Speed: Eliminating the need for constant app switching genuinely improves daily productivity.
  4. AI agent strategy: Enterprises building agentic AI need their agents to act reliably with access to real business data, governed workflows, and accountability. Headless 360 gives agents the enterprise infrastructure they need to move from pilot to production.
