Discover the Headless Solution

Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:

  • Explain the differentiator between Salesforce Headless 360 and other AI solutions.
  • Describe the three core capabilities that Headless 360 unlocks for your organization.
  • Explain how Cross-Cloud MCPs connect AI agents to the broader enterprise ecosystem.

Managed Service Versus Do-It-Yourself Kit

Headless 360 is not a new product. It's a fundamental architectural shift that opens the Salesforce Platform to any agent, any IDE, and any surface. It gives organizations a managed service built on the open standard, with the Salesforce Trust Layer automatically enforcing security on every single action.

Three Things You Need to Know

To help you understand the power of this architectural shift, focus on these three core capabilities.

  1. Build with any coding agent or IDE: Developers can use the tools they already love. Backed by the Trust Layer, Salesforce offers more than 60 MCP tools and more than 30 preconfigured ADLC Skills that are available right now.
  2. Build with any UI framework: Salesforce Multi-Framework allows teams to build AI agents and apps using industry-standard frameworks, like React, all while staying inside a secure, governed environment.
  3. Deploy on any surface: Using the Headless Experience Layer (HXL), businesses can separate their logic and data from the screen. They define their intent once and render it natively everywhere their users already work. For example, a travel platform like Engine can build its rebooking logic a single time—and that same agent automatically surfaces natively in Slack for internal support teams and as a high-fidelity web component for travelers—without rewriting code for each channel.

How Coding Agents Like Claude Code Fit In

Claude Code is a prime example of an external coding agent that developers can use to build Salesforce-powered experiences. So how does a tool like this fit into the Headless 360 architecture? Good question.

  • Native integration via MCP and skills: Headless 360 makes the Salesforce Platform legible to external tools using platform-hosted MCP servers and open-source ADLC Skills. This allows Claude Code to natively connect to Salesforce APIs, data, and logic.
  • Building without leaving the IDE: Developers can use Claude Code to autonomously build, test, and observe Agentforce agents directly from their preferred environment without ever needing to log into Salesforce.
  • Inheriting enterprise trust: When Claude Code plugs into Salesforce via MCP servers, every action is automatically governed by the Salesforce Trust Layer. All metadata-based access controls, like field-level security (FLS) and sharing rules, are strictly enforced.
  • Handling the DIY objection: Developers may want to Claude Code their own agents instead of using Agentforce. The good news is that they do not have to choose. With Agentforce Labs and open-source skills, developers can use Claude Code with Salesforce and get enterprise safety, best practices, and full agent lifecycle management out of the box.
  • Connecting beyond the IDE: Headless 360 is completely model-agnostic. Through the LLM Gateway, you can securely connect to third-party models like Anthropic’s Claude, Google’s Gemini, or OpenAI’s GPT-5 without suffering from model lock-in. In fact, the Agentforce Vibes 2.0 coding environment uses Claude Sonnet 4.5 as its default model.

The Agent Development Lifecycle

Headless 360 supports the full agent development lifecycle end to end. You can seamlessly move through every phase: design, build, test and evaluate, deploy, and observe.

  • Design: Define agent behavior, topics, and guardrails in natural language.
  • Build: Use ADLC Skills and MCP servers from any IDE (Vibes, Claude Code, Cursor, and so forth).
  • Test and evaluate: Validate agent behavior using pre-built test skills.
  • Deploy: Push to any surface—Slack, Teams, mobile, custom portal—in one click via HXL.
  • Observe: Monitor performance, audit decisions, and optimize continuously.

To get started immediately, check out Agentforce Labs. This is a live, experimental environment with no setup, no gating, and no waiting. Your developers can jump in and start building headless agents right away to see what is possible.

Power Your Agents with Cross-Cloud MCPs

Headless 360 extends beyond standard data. With cross-cloud MCPs, you can connect your AI agents to your entire enterprise ecosystem securely. Check out these examples of how you can expose the broader tech stack as reusable AI tools.

  • Tableau MCP: Connect your AI ecosystem to trusted analytics by exposing Tableau’s governed knowledge engine to any agent.
  • Informatica MCP: Expose data management capabilities as AI tools and reusable services any AI agent can invoke, which helps ground both human and agentic workflows in clean, governed enterprise data at scale.
  • Data 360 MCP: Power every agent with real-time, trusted context by extending Salesforce data governance to the Headless 360 solution, providing you with a unified customer profile, and enabling the agent to monitor events and precisely segment your customers.
  • MuleSoft MCP: Use MuleSoft capabilities to build, deploy, manage, and govern integrations, agents, APIs, and MCPs.
  • Slack MCP: Access and interact with your Slack data, like messages, channels, and Canvases, so agents can answer questions and take actions on your behalf.
  • Agentforce Commerce MCPs: Retrieve product catalogs and turn every agent into a point of sale. With over 60 prebuilt commerce MCP tools available, your agents can generate localized pricing, manage inventory, and execute secure cart checkouts natively on any surface Salesforce renders on.

What Does Headless Mean for Your Data Infrastructure?

When your business points an AI model directly at raw database tables, they create a multitude of problems. Every user ends up spinning their own version of the same workflow. Processes become inconsistent, the AI makes judgment calls your business rules should be making, and governance disappears. After a few months, nobody can tell you which version of the process is the real one.

The right approach is to keep business logic inside the Salesforce domain—and that’s where Data 360 becomes the unlock. Data 360 is the harmonized, governed, real-time layer that unifies your customer data across every system into a single trusted profile. When an AI model calls into Salesforce, it’s not hitting a stale snapshot or a siloed table. It’s calling orchestrated business logic operating on a source of truth that’s updated in real time, governed, and reconciled.

Data 360 powers every agent in the Headless 360 architecture in three essential ways.

  1. It unifies your enterprise data: Use identity resolution, zero-copy federation, 270+ connectors, and structured and unstructured data, all without moving your data.
  2. It activates in real time: Data 360 monitors events and fires triggers automatically—no waiting for batch jobs or manual reports. Context is delivered in under 3 minutes.
  3. It’s governed and grounded AI: Policy-based governance, automated tagging, dynamic masking, and agentic grounding ensure agents act on trusted data—not stale snapshots.

Better Together: Salesforce Apps and Headless

You might ask what this means for traditional Salesforce apps and the Lightning UI. The short answer is Headless 360 is an “and”, not an “or”. You can benefit from the extensibility of our APIs and data framework, and the standard Salesforce UI isn’t going away. Organizations that love Lightning Experience can keep using it exactly as-is.

But work has outgrown the browser. Your team works in Slack, in meetings, in voice, in AI tools, and now your apps can too. Instead of replacing existing apps, Headless 360 breaks them out of the browser and empowers your teams to architect the agentic enterprise on their own terms. It introduces a seamless experience layer that powers rich, native interactions, from Slack and WhatsApp to Voice. Developers can continue building with Lightning Web Components (LWCs) or use industry-standard tools like React through Salesforce Multi-Framework. They can even integrate new React components directly into existing Lightning App Builder pages.

Headless by design, Customer 360 Apps show up wherever work happens and your developers can build for them anywhere too. New MCP tools and coding skills give coding agents full access to the platform, enabling completely custom interfaces and experiences with all the platform power underneath. When AI agents access Salesforce headlessly, they still rely on the identity, access, security, data, governance, workflows, and capabilities established by your core apps. Ultimately, your teams can innovate faster in a secure environment without abandoning the experiences they’ve already built.
