Drive Field Execution

Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:

  • Determine where to apply shared and presentation-specific settings.
  • Configure player tools and safeguards for a guided, compliant healthcare professional (HCP) interaction.
  • Explain how custom presentations preserve approved content and mandatory requirements.
  • Configure feedback, tracking, and approved follow-up options.
  • Describe how presentation activity is captured for reporting and analysis.

Shape the Field Experience

In the previous unit, you learned about making approved presentations available to the appropriate field users and helped them find relevant content. Access determines what a representative can open. Presentation and execution settings determine how representatives prepare, track, and share that content during and after an HCP interaction.

The administrator configures four parts of that experience: the baseline settings, the live player, the options for adapting and recording the interaction, and the follow-up method. This unit follows that sequence from the first player setting to the activity that later supports analysis.

Set the Configuration Scope

You configure most shared controls in Presentation Settings. Use Apply Settings To to determine who receives a configuration.

  • Org Default establishes the baseline for the organization.
  • Profile overrides the org default for users with a different field workflow.
  • User overrides the broader configuration for an individual exception.

Begin with the org default, and add narrower assignments only where the working model differs. Cumulus Pharma, for example, gives its commercial representatives one set of player tools. Its medical science liaisons use presentations differently, so the administrator creates a profile-level assignment for that group instead of maintaining separate user settings.

A few choices remain on the individual Presentation record because they depend on the layout or approved use of that deck. When creating the presentation, you configure options such as menu placement, feedback position, double-tap zoom, and whether the presentation can be shared by email. Now consider how those choices affect delivery. Because several Immunexis pages contain interactive controls, the administrator sets the menu placement so it doesn't cover that content.

Guide the Live Interaction

Presentation Player Settings control the tools available while a representative presents.

Presentation Player Settings

Page names provide clearer navigation than page numbers. Drawing tools help the representative mark a detail temporarily, while the laser pointer directs attention without leaving an annotation. A visible menu icon gives users a consistent path to the player controls.

During an Immunexis discussion, a representative points to an efficacy result, circles a dosing detail, and then uses the page names to move directly to a safety topic raised by the HCP.

For interactive HTML content, make sure player controls and touch regions don’t compete for the same part of the screen. Mobile supports touch gestures and device-specific controls, while desktop uses its standard interface navigation.

The player also implements the required-page rules applied to Presentation Page records. Required pages appear with an asterisk. A representative can change the sequence to follow the HCP’s questions, but can’t close or switch presentations until the required pages have been shown. When a required page contains multiple internal slides, all of those slides are required as well.

When an HCP handles the tablet directly, Lock player on mobile keeps the device inside the presentation player until the representative enters a PIN. The HCP interacts with the approved content without gaining access to the rest of the mobile app.

Adapt Approved Content and Record the Interaction

Sometimes an HCP asks to move directly from efficacy to dosing or return to a safety topic discussed earlier. Custom presentations help representatives prepare a focused sequence from approved HTML presentation pages already available in the content library.

The representative can select and reorder pages, but can’t rewrite the source content or remove its product, guidance-message, and mandatory-content relationships.

Sometimes, a representative preparing for a rheumatologist builds a shorter Immunexis sequence around efficacy, administration, and a relevant patient profile. If the source content includes a mandatory safety page, that page remains required in the custom presentation. Because the custom deck references the approved source Presentation Pages rather than copying them, updates to the underlying approved content are reflected without requiring the representative to rebuild the custom presentation.

Enable Create custom presentations under Content Library Settings.

Content Library Settings

To create custom presentations, field users also need access to Presentation, Presentation Linked Page, and Topic Assignment records.

Representatives can capture feedback from an interaction in several ways, depending on the level of detail required.

Representatives use presentation feedback to record positive or negative feedback directly from the presentation player. Feedback can be captured at the Presentation or Presentation Page level, providing a simple indication of how the HCP responded to the overall presentation or an individual page.

For interactive HTML content, content builders can also use supported JavaScript functions to capture feedback for a specific Product Guidance Message from within the content itself. This enables more granular feedback than the standard player controls and uses the feedback values configured for the associated guidance message.

Survey feedback captures structured information that can be captured repeatedly over time. A representative begins with a blank survey or copies the latest response and updates it. Each submission remains a separate response.

For Immunexis, the representative records positive feedback on an efficacy page and updates a survey that tracks interest in additional administration resources.

Enable the appropriate methods under Feedback Settings. When feedback appears directly on the presentation, use Content Feedback Side on the Presentation record to keep the controls clear of interactive content.

Tracking Settings determine which activity becomes available for later analysis. Administrators can record the presentation location, open the player with tracking paused, and enable or disable participant and presenter tracking. For supported interactive HTML content, you can also configure in-content interactions alongside presentation navigation activity.

Cumulus Pharma opens the player with tracking paused so previews and rehearsals don’t enter launch reporting. The representative starts tracking when the HCP discussion begins. Presenter tracking captures eligible representative activity, while participant tracking applies to Remote Visits and captures eligible remote-participant activity.

Continue the Engagement

After the interaction, representatives can send approved content as a PDF attachment or a governed presentation link.

A PDF attachment provides a fixed copy that the HCP can download and retain. Enable Send presentations as email attachments, permit email sharing on the Presentation record, and provide a PDF version. The representative can then select the pages to include.

For example, after an Immunexis discussion, a representative sends the dosing and administration pages requested by the HCP. The attachment preserves what was sent at that time, but it doesn’t reflect later presentation updates or continue tracking activity.

A governed link keeps access connected to the presentation in Salesforce. The HCP opens the content in an Experience Cloud site without downloading the file or signing in. The link can show the latest presentation version, expire after a defined period, and capture subsequent viewing activity.

Link sharing requires additional configuration, including an Experience Cloud site with the Presentation Player component and guest-user access. You also need approved email templates, sharing settings, and presentation records approved for sharing. Refer Salesforce Help for the complete setup procedure.

For the Immunexis follow-up, the representative sends a governed link when Cumulus Pharma wants the HCP to revisit the current approved presentation and preserve later activity for analysis.

Capture Engagement for Measurement

The settings you configure also determine what presentation activity is available for reporting and analysis. During a tracked interaction, Intelligent Content captures page-level engagement in Presentation Click Stream Entry records. What each record contains depends on whether tracking is active and which tracking options are enabled.

Each record preserves context from both the approved content and the interaction, including:

  • The presentation, presentation page, and content version
  • Associated products, messages, and product guidance
  • Related account and visit or remote engagement
  • When the content was viewed and how long it remained in view
  • Device and browser details
  • Captured content feedback

Across many interactions, commercial teams can use these records to compare how engagement varies by content, message, account, version, and other dimensions.

Governed presentation links extend measurement beyond the representative-led interaction. When a representative emails a presentation link, Salesforce creates a Presentation Party Access record for each presentation, account, and sharing event. The record identifies the email recipient, defines the link’s valid period, and stores the unique access identifier. When the recipient follows the link, Salesforce captures presentation metrics for the account referenced in the record’s Party field.

Wrap Up

For Cumulus Pharma, the Immunexis presentation is now ready for the field, approved, discoverable, governed in the player, and set up so field activity flows back as business evidence.

Across this badge, you explored turning approved files into governed presentation content for field use. You learned about structuring presentations and connected pages with products and guidance messages. You also learned about managing access and discovery, and configuring how representatives present, adapt, share, and track approved content.
