Hello Salesforce SPM & Spiff Community,

I am a new Salesforce SPM/SPIFF Administrator working on a pre-launch implementation for an international organisation.

I am trying to understand the end-to-end process required to create a compensation plan for a new country from scratch. The country may contain multiple sales roles (e.g., Territory Managers, Regional Sales Managers, Clinical Specialists, Inside Sales, etc.) with different incentive structures.

From an administrator perspective, I would like to understand:

  1. What are the major implementation stages before creating any compensation plans?
  2. What dependencies should be configured first (participants, hierarchy, territories, quota management, data integrations, etc.)?
  3. What is the recommended sequence for building plans, components, rules, measures, quotas, and payouts?
  4. How do experienced administrators manage multiple roles that have different plan designs within the same country?
  5. What objects and relationships should a beginner fully understand before configuring plans?
  6. What are the most common design mistakes that new administrators make during their first implementation?
  7. Do you have a recommended checklist or framework that you follow when onboarding a new country into Salesforce SPM/Spiff?

My goal is not only to learn how to configure a plan technically, but also to understand the overall operating model and best-practice implementation approach used by experienced SPM administrators.

Any examples, implementation frameworks, lessons learned, or documentation recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
