We upgraded a 3 node Tableau Server installation on Windows 2016 from 2019.2.4 to 2021.4.2

We ran into a very odd issues where some users notified us that they were missing some workbooks out of their favorites.

Upon examining the incidents it seems that the workbooks are missing because the users cannot view them any more even when providing them a direct link.

We have a test server with the same setup as our production that we performed a test upgrade 2 weeks ago(going from 2019.2.4 to 2021.4.2 on Windows 2016). This test server is using a tsbak file from our production(a few weeks old). What is weird is that users are not seeing this issue on the test server at all. I have compared permissions at the workbook level and the test and prod environment match exactly.

I have verified that the user has permission to view the workbook in our prod servers but it does not work. The user has permissions via a group. What we have found is that if we add the user directly to the workbook they can see the workbook. Or if we create a new local group and bulk add them in.

Steps taken to solve issue so far

1)     tsm stop

2)     Reboot All windows VM servers in the cluster

3)     tsm maintenance cleanup

4)      tsm maintenance reindex-search

5)     tsm start

Hi, have you tried resetting the search server?

    tsm maintenance reset-searchserver

This is the second option if you run tsm maintenance reindex-search and if you are getting "lost" content.

If this post resolves the question, would you be so kind to "Select as Best"?. This will help other users find the same answer/resolution and help community keep track of answered questions. Thank you.
