I know that most of the time that people are trying to remove the hierarchy when it comes to data. In my case, that the exact opposite of what I want to do here.

In my real life, I work for a big company and most of the data is organized in a hierarchical order. By using a hierarchy table I am able to join to my transactional table then then create a visualization with navigation controls that allow a user to select the granularity of the view that they want to view.

I know that most of the time when I ask questions surrounding a hierarchy, people suggest the hierarchy feature in Tableau Desktop such as Country/Region, State, City. That is not the functionality that I am asking for her.

What I am asking for is that if I had a list of organizations that came from a table or spreadsheet, using Tableau Prep could you make it into hierarchy table?

I have attached a spreadsheet and Power Point.

The Power Point provides a visual representation of what the company hierarchy looks like.

  • The spreadsheet has two tabs
    • one tab is a list of organization codes which represents the raw data.
    • one tab represents what I would like to see as a final output in Tableau Prep.

I realize that there might not be enough data in the first spreadsheet tab to do what I am asking for here. If that's the case, please let me know as I am trying to work with our DBA to build this view. I know there are some really talented and smart people here who know a heck of a lot more about Tableau Prep than I do which is why I am investigating building this view using Tableau Prep. This way I don't have to rely upon our DBA.

@Abhishek Singh while I appreciate your suggestion this is not what I was looking for and exactly what I was afraid of what was going to be suggested when I mentioned "hierarchy"
