Hi all! I really appreciate folks' responses to my questions here - it's super useful for this newbie to learn how other orgs do things.

This is a simple question and is less technical and more about standard practices.

We're going to start using tasks and activities in earnest to track donor related tasks and outreach. For folks who do this my question is: Say you have a task called "Amy to call Bill to thank for recent gift"  on x date. When you do make the call, how do you record that?

Do you: (1) mark the task as complete and change the subject to "Amy called Bill to thank for recent gift" and then write the details in the "comments" field?

Or do you (2) mark the task as complete and then "log a call" (creating a separate activity record) with the subject "Amy called Bill to thank for recent gift" and then write the details in the "comments" field?

Basically when you complete a task do you edit the task itself to reflect what happened or do you just mark it complete and create a new activity with the details?

Thanks!

Love the subject of "Thank You Call" rather than "Amy to call Bill to thank for recent gift". Hopefully you can train/motivate staff to enter subjects like this,  and they will be incentivized when they don't have to change it once the task is completed.
