I have created a Classic report of donations over the last 5 years, summarized first by Account and then by Year. I have placed that chart on the Account layout and in Classic it shows exactly that, the Account's donations over the last 5 years. See image 1 below. In Lightning that chart seems to only show the Account's total giving for the report, not broken down into years. See image below.

Similarly I have another donations report created in Classic that breaks down giving by Account and then by donation record type. That chart in Classic shows a pie chart of total donations by record type (see image below). Back in Lightning, the chart again shows only the total for the Account, not broken down by record type. It's also in a donut chart, not a pie chart, but I understand that's a silly limitation of Lightning. Oddly, if I run the report directly, the chart displays as it should, broken down by record type. It's just that the chart doesn't translate over to the Account layout.

These charts are extremely useful for at-a-glance summary of that Account's engagement with us. But they are useless in Lightning. What is going on here and how can I fix it?

I resolved the first chart issue (Donations Last 5 Years) by deleting the chart and rebuilding it. Doing this gave me the ability to show both Accounts and Year along the x-axist and sum of amount on the y-axis. It also apparently needs to be a matrix report (grouped by both rows and columns). That graph is now working. I then tried rebuilding the pie/donut chart (this time using donut from the start since pie charts aren't available in Lightning). But no luck on this one. The Accounts object doesn't seem to want to render this chart no matter what I do. I'd love to hear what others know about this.
