I would like to create a button on the case object which will help in linking a case to multiple cases. Something like a lookup to search for relevant cases to be attached on a case. Is this possible without Visualfore/Apex ?

Have you tried the Related case? Which displays all of the cases directly below a parent case in a case hierarchy. So you can associate cases with each other via the Parent Case lookup field on a case edit page.
