set value of picklist in flow to null

I have picklists set up in my flow and I would like to be able to set a defualt value or default the value to null. I cannot find a way to do that. When I click on the default value dropdown I do not get any choices.

    for anyone finding this today: from flow runtime version 52 onwards a null value is the default and automatically triggers validation when the field is required as long as no default value is set. 

     

    So just update the flow runtime version
