Creating an unmanaged package that includes reports and dashboard seems to fail on specific fields in the activity object

I've created an unmanaged package to share an integration that includes data in custom fields and some reports on that data.  While most of the package works perfectly, a set of reports on Activities fail.  The dashboard shows "Error: One or more of the fields selected in the component is no longer available in the report. Use the dashboard component editor to select one of the available fields" and when I go to the underlying report, the "Assigned To: Full Name" field seems to have been removed.  That field is there in the selector when editing the report, and I've checked visibility settings on the field, so it's not a security/visibility thing.  I can manually re-edit the report and add that field back with no problems, it seems like the packaging just lost it.  I've tried making a custom formula field on the Activity object that pulls that data in, and the same thing happens. All my other reports seem to be fine, but any reports that depend on that specific field do not package up and install correctly.  Any ideas where I might look for what's going wrong?

Okay, I think I've found a workaround - it was based on a custom report type, but if I went back to the standard Activities and Contacts report type the package installation worked.  Seems like there's something odd with the way the custom report type is set up, but I can make it work.  Thanks!
