I need to clone a dashboard and have not been able to find step-by-step instructions for doing this. Also, what do I need to know about the underlying reports when I clone a DB?

I also need to add a new component, I think it is, to an existing dashboard. I've looked through the help and training and also the Q&A forums and haven't been able to find what I need.

I know this is basic stuff, but I'm definitely still a newbie.

Thank you!

Cloning a dashboard and adding new components can feel confusing at first, especially if you're new, but once you understand the steps, it becomes quite straightforward.

    1. How to Clone a Dashboard

Most platforms (like Salesforce or similar reporting tools) allow you to clone a dashboard directly from the dashboard page.

    Step-by-step process:

    1. Go to the Dashboards tab.
    2. Open the dashboard you want to clone.
    3. Click on the Edit button.
    4. Look for the Clone or Save As option.
    5. Give the new dashboard a different name.
    6. Choose the folder/location where you want to save it.
    7. Click Save.

Now you’ll have a copy of the original dashboard that you can modify without affecting the original.

    2. What You Need to Know About Underlying Reports

Every dashboard component is based on a report. When you clone a dashboard:

    • The dashboard gets copied, but the underlying reports do NOT get cloned automatically.
    • The new dashboard will still reference the same original reports.
    • If you modify a report, it may affect all dashboards using that report.

    So before making changes:

    • Check which reports each component is using.
    • If you need different data, consider cloning the report first, then update the dashboard component to use the new report.

    3. How to Add a New Component to an Existing Dashboard

    To add a new component:

    1. Open the dashboard.
    2. Click Edit.
    3. Click Add Component.
    4. Select the report you want to use.
    5. Choose the chart type (bar chart, pie chart, table, etc.).
    6. Adjust display settings as needed.
    7. Click Add and then Save.

If the report you need does not exist, you’ll have to create the report first and then add it to the dashboard. You Can Check It :- https://migso.io/salesforce-clone-metadata/salesforce-clone-dashboards/
