To be honest I think you would have to define your requirements and your White Space Theory first, ignoring Salesforce at this stage. Define the criteria of 'what is an unexplored opportunity' and then you can find the correct tool and process of finding it.
Then, back to Salesforce, either look at this in relation to salesforce reports & dashboards. Or if that does not drill in enough, look at any number of Apps on here
