Hello-

I am working on a solution to catch records that may not have been submitted for approval. I have a text field that is read only (except for system admins) that has a default value of "Not Submitted." In the approval process, I have field updates that update the field to "Pending" when submitted for approval and then "approved" or "rejected" depending on the outcome.

I want a rule that evaluates about 8 hours after the record has been created if it has been submitted for approval and if not, sends an email alert.

I tried the rule criteria just being the field value "Not Submitted"  (created and edited to meet criteria) and then a time-based workflow rule that ran 8 hours after the creation date. But, now thinking about it, of course it didn't work because all records when created will have the value "Not Submitted" since you cannot submit something for approval until you've saved it. I am guessing workflow evaluates the rule at the time of creation and sets up the email for 8 hours later.

Is there any way to set up a rule that can evaluate the record several hours later and then fire an email? I can't seem to think of a different solution.

Hmm, thanks for this. We had a record that changed to "Pending" during the 8 hour time frame and it still sent out an email. I will do some testing and see if I can figure out why.

    Thank you!
