Can I make ONLY the account name of accounts a user does not own visible?

 I do not want all users sharing account details, but time and again I have the issue with "duplicates" appearing due to this. I need staff to see the account name on other users' accounts, but NOTHING else. Is that possible? I can not see an easy way to do this.

    Assuming all users at that level are using the same profile (which denotes what they can see if that can see a record) and assuming you only have one page layout / record type for Accounts, if the user can see the account, they are going to be able to see the rest of the record (fields and page layout).

     

    It's a fairly new product, and I've only talked to the rep, but you might check out a product called "Dupe Catcher" They presented recently to the Dallas SFDC User Group and they might be able to help. Here is there contact info:
