Trouble with Create New

When creating a new contact from the Create New option on the left, some fields come prepopulated from the currently showing contact, like organization name, current country, current street, and current city.  This is a problem since the new contact isn't necessarily from the same organization.  How do I stop this from happening?  If it makes any difference, the org uses HEDA, but I've seen this in an org that doesn't use HEDA, too.
