Hi there,
So I have a Tableau Online site that I have set up for a client. The MS SQL Database is on a private network that I needed to use a VPN in order to connect to the database in order to develop reports for the client on Tableau Desktop. I used Tableau Bridge to set up the connection in order to Publish the workbooks and data source to Tableau Online. However sometimes there are instances whereby I (as well other Tableau users for this site) am unable to open a workbook on Tableau Online unless I am connected to the VPN and sometimes I will get this error message on Tableau Online if my machine is not connected to the VPN: "Unable to connect to Microsoft SQL Server. Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database". So my question will the bridge client need to be connected to the VPN at all times in order for Tableau Bridge to access the data source that is on a private network in order to use the workbooks on Tableau Online?
Just on another note, there are other instances when I don't need to be connected to the VPN and the reports will display and work as normal so I am struggling to troubleshoot.
