Error message step 3 trailhead Mars Communication Uplink

Trying to complete step 3 of Mars Communication Uplink and keep getting the following: 

Challenge Not yet complete... here's what's wrong: 

There was an unexpected error in your org which is preventing this assessment check from completing: System.DmlException: Insert failed. First exception on row 0; first error: REQUIRED_FIELD_MISSING, Required fields are missing: [Next__c]: [Next__c]

I do see the field Next__c listed for object fields and it is required...not sure what is wrong.  Can anyone help?

    Hi Lindsay,

    You probably get this error, because your session has expired.

    Please try to log out of your DE (in trailhead, not the org) and reconnect your DE to the trailhead. Then, please re-check the challenge. It should pass now.

    Still, if the problem persists may I request you to please reach out to trailhead support team so that they can look into it and do the needful.
