Need to change a lookup relationship to master detail but not all parent records have a child record created

Question

I have a custom object set up for Pricing Requests and a related object for the Pricing Approval records.  The Pricing Request object has an approval process where if the request is approved, the approver will create a Pricing Approval record.  If the request is rejected, then a Pricing Approval record is not created. In an effort to update the relationship from a Lookup to a Master-Detail, I have completed the task of populating the lookup field with the records that were approved with their corresponding Pricing Approval record.  Do you have suggestions on how I will be able to switch the relationship to  Master-Detail if some of the requests have been Rejected therefore does not have a Pricing Approval record?

Aside from creating a dummy record and associating it to the records with the empty field, I don't think there is a solution.   I hope this helps.
