Hello,
I am working on an HR section of our database. I have a custom object called "Job Application" that is the detail object of a master-detail relationship with "Position Posting." Position Posting is the detail of a master-detail relationship with "Position." Right now, I have Position Posting named with an auto-number because for most Position records (named with text), there will be multiple Position Posting records. I enabled enhanced lookup and added the Position Name field as a lookup filter field, but when I go to the Job Application record and try to search by Position Name instead of the Position Posting Number, I get zero results. It will only allow me to search by the Position Posting Number. My concern with this is that staff won't know what the position posting number is-they're only going to know the position name it's tied to.
Is it not possible with custom objects to do what I'm trying to do? Should I instead change Position Posting to be a text name and instruct staff when creating a new record to name it with the name of the position and then some type of number? I'll do that if I have to, I just hate the possibility of user error.
Thanks and let me know if any of this is not clear!

Hi Blair,
After enabling enhanced lookups, specify which fields users can use to filter lookup search results.
