Get to Know the Scheduling Console

Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:

  • Describe the key business advantages of the Scheduling Console.
  • Explain how to set up the Scheduling console tab.
  • Recognize how the three core views work together.

Why Organized Scheduling Is Important

A great field service operation needs a lot of specialized teams working together in sync. But at the heart of it are your mobile workers, the people who go out into the field every day to deliver outstanding service, right at your customers’ doorsteps.

Getting these workers to the right place at the right time, equipped with the right skills, is no simple task. It takes constant juggling in an environment that never stops changing. Plans change, a worker calls in sick, parts go missing, and suddenly the whole day feels like a never-ending obstacle race. One setback is all it takes to knock you off your planned track.

That's where the new Scheduling Console comes in. Think of it as your trusty control center, built to help you navigate every obstacle and manage your entire operation from a single screen. The console is designed around your daily needs as a dispatcher, with AI support built into every step.

Here's what makes the console work so well.

  • Clean, easy-to-navigate design: The console is built on a modern framework (Lightning Web Components) that keeps the screen simple and reduces the mental effort needed to find what you're searching for.
  • Fewer clicks, less friction: The console supports fast-moving workflows and even lets you work across multiple screens at once, so you can manage a busy, constantly shifting schedule without extra steps.
  • Only pulls what it needs: GraphQL lets the console ask for exactly the data it needs, nothing more and nothing less, instead of pulling in large chunks of unnecessary information every time you make a request.
  • Stays fast no matter the load: With server-side filtering and lazy loading, the console sorts and narrows down data on the Salesforce servers and only loads information the moment you actually need it, instead of loading everything upfront. Together, these keep the console efficient and responsive, even when you're managing thousands of service appointments and resources at once.

That's the console in a nutshell. It’s a fast, intuitive workspace built to help you handle the everyday chaos of field service with ease. Of course, before you can get started, there's a bit of setup involved.

Sign Up for a Developer Edition Org with the Scheduling Console

To complete this badge, you need a custom playground that contains the Scheduling Console and our sample data.

  1. Select Create Playground, and then select Yes, Create Playground.
  2. Your new org is automatically attached to your Trailhead account.
  3. Make note of your org's expiration date and complete this badge before then.
  4. Select Launch to open the playground.

Set Up the Scheduling Console

Getting the Scheduling Console ready for your team is simple. When you enable Agentforce Field Service using Salesforce Go, the system automatically enables the Scheduling Console for you. Now all that’s left to do is assign the right permissions to your dispatchers so they can review and work with the console. Here’s how that happens.

  1. From Setup The setup icon, select Salesforce Go.
  2. In the Search features bar, search for and select Scheduling Console.
  3. Verify that the scheduling console is turned on.
  4. In the Migrate to the Scheduling Console section, select the Give Dispatchers Scheduling Console Access button to activate it.

Now, you need to assign yourself as a user for the scheduling console permission set that the system created for your dispatchers.

  1. Select Review Permissions to go to the required permission set. Within the permission set, go to Object Settings and select Scheduling Console.
  2. Select Manage Assignments | Add Assignment.
  3. Select the checkbox next to OrgFarm EPIC to assign the permission set.
  4. Select Next | Assign.
  5. Select Done.

That's all it takes to get the Scheduling Console ready for your team. Just a couple of steps in Setup, one permission set assignment, and your dispatchers already have everything they need to start working from a single, unified screen.

Find Your Way Around the Scheduling Console

With that groundwork in place, it's time to open up the console and review it in action. Here’s how to get there.

  1. From the App Launcher App Launcher, search for and select Scheduling Console. You might need to refresh your org once for it to show up.

The Scheduling Console opens up as a tab in the Field Service App, which is where your dispatchers work from and access other field service objects like accounts and service resources. The console is organized into three key parts, and each one gives you a different view into your day. Think of it like a well-organized workbench. Every tool has a place, so when you need something specific, you're not digging through drawers to find it. You simply reach for the right section and get straight to work.

That's the idea behind the Scheduling Console too. Instead of cramming everything onto one crowded screen, it splits your view into three distinct areas, each one built for a specific part of your job as a dispatcher. Here's what each one does.

The Scheduling Console interface with the three workspaces highlighted—the Gantt, the Service Appointment List, and the Map.

  1. The Gantt: This is your timeline. It includes service resources—in this case, on-site technicians—as rows and their appointments as blocks. The Gantt serves best to give you a snapshot of your daily plans, acting as a single stop to manage the entire operation. You can filter resources, move around their appointments, assign resource absences, and even expand it to review several days at once.
  2. The service appointment list: A list of all your service appointments, both open and scheduled. This acts as an overview of all the work your organization has. Create custom lists and use filters to surface appointments that require your attention urgently, and drag them over to the Gantt to schedule.
  3. The map: The map gives you real-time geographical data to plan your operation efficiently. With layers that include planned resource routes, traffic, and exact appointment locations, you can be sure that your schedule holds up in the real world.

Time, task, and location. Together, these three views give you a complete picture of your operation from every angle, all in one console. No more piecing things together by yourself.

In this unit, you learned why the Scheduling Console matters, explored how to set it up, and got familiar with its three core views. That's a strong foundation to build on. The hurdles of a busy field service day aren't going anywhere, but at least now you're fully equipped to handle them.
