How did you come to join the Trailblazer community?
After years of working in IT, my focus shifted to Salesforce. I started learning with Trailhead online which in many ways served as a gateway to an elevated understanding of the platform. I was even fortunate to attend a course taught by Leah McGowen-Hare. Leah stressed, “80-90% of development in Salesforce can be done declaratively.” Realizing that I can understand apps, Visualforce controllers, and create custom objects without having to be an in-the-weeds program developer was a game changer. I was all in.
What is your biggest win thanks to something you’ve learned from Trailhead?
Through Trailhead's Change Management module I was able to understand and deploy a governance strategy and process at my company. I'm also proud to have created a process and framework in Salesforce that connected multiple objects with process builder which allowed me to merge fields from a custom object into an automated message that was posted to a private chatter group.
How does Trailhead help you do your job better?
Trailhead allows me to keep my reputation as a subject matter expert and thought leader. Salesforce is great because it's constantly innovating. Trailhead allows me to keep up with those innovations.
What does the Trailblazer community mean to you? How do you give back?
It means a place for learning, collaborating, and sharing in service of the collective. I co-lead and speak at a local Salesforce Saturday in Minnesota. I also co-host the Campfires podcast series with Stacey Cogswell.
How will Trailhead be a part of your future?
As a Trailblazer, you are the expert that can create opportunities for others. A Trailblazer finds innovative and philanthropic ways to serve others in their pursuit of success. Trailhead has helped me not only become more skilled at Salesforce, but it has also lead to a professional speaking career. I plan to continue down this journey of speaking about my Salesforce expertise; while leveraging Trailhead. I hope to teach aspiring students about the benefits of a Salesforce education and Trailhead is a great way to do it.
What message do you have for people that are considering learning Salesforce with Trailhead?
Go all in! Having Salesforce skills in your toolbox will allow you access to innovative companies who are using the best in tech. The R.O.I. will be significant for you and your family. And once you get started, share your story. Your journey is unique and can serve as inspiration for up and coming Trailblazers.
