Hi everyone,

I currently have a bar chart in Tableau where VINs are selected from a dropdown filter, and the corresponding bars update based on the selected VIN. This part is working fine.

Now, I want to implement the reverse:

When I click a bar (for example, representing a category or metric), I want the VIN dropdown to get filtered, showing only the VINs relevant to the selected bar.

Is there a way to make the VIN dropdown dynamic based on bar chart interaction? I tried using filter actions, but they don't seem to affect the dropdown filter directly.

Has anyone implemented this kind of interactivity before, or is there a recommended workaround (e.g., using a VIN sheet instead of a filter control)?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I remember a similar situation was explained in a blog from the flerlage twins a year and a half ago.

Is this what you need? Have you tried using "only relevant option" in your Vin filter?

    Attached an example with superstore.

If this post resolves the question, would you be so kind to "Select as Best"?. This will help other users find the same answer/resolution and help community keep track of answered questions. Thank you.
